In this post we explore the addition of Genesis CLI to WP Engine’s DevKit and recently released capabilities that allow for you to earn new customers for your Genesis-focused agency or freelance business.
These announcements are part of our continued commitment to not only provide you technology that helps you build more powerful websites faster, but also to help you grow!
Skip to the section of this post where you can learn about getting leads for your agency or freelance business.
What is Genesis CLI?
Genesis CLI is a feature available with Genesis that lets you perform functions within Genesis using a “command line interface”. These capabilities are critical to advanced developers who are looking to make their workflows as fast as possible and automate key parts of their build process. WordPress itself has similar CLI capabilities through the WP-CLI project which is maintained and grown by the wonderful and wickedly-smart Alain Schlesser. Genesis CLI is focused on enabling Genesis functions through a command line interface and might be used alongside WP-CLI or any other number of CLI tools.
In the screenshot below, you can see Genesis CLI being used to change the layout automatically on a Genesis website.
Genesis CLI is now within WP Engine’s DevKit
In June 2019 WP Engine launched a free WordPress local development solution called “DevKit”. In addition to supporting local development environments for WordPress (regardless of where you host), DevKit also allows users to use various build and debug tools like easy PHP version testing, xdebug, mailhod, ngrok, webgrind, and more. The result of all that power is that DevKit provides a great set of tools that help advanced developers work faster and more reliably.
You can learn how to install & use DevKit on WP Engine’s DevKit webpage.
To make things even better for DevKit + Genesis users, WP Engine has also added Genesis CLI to DevKit!
Now Genesis developers can access all of the Genesis CLI commands within DevKit in order to work faster by invoking Genesis CLI commands directly as part of their build and deploy process. Users of DevKit can enable Genesis CLI by entering WPE Genesis [command]. [command] is the Genesis CLI command you want to run.
In the screenshot below, you can see Genesis CLI being used within WP Engine’s DevKit.
If you’ve been looking to up your dev game and speed up your workflows, escape the GUI world and embrace the CLI world with DevKit and Genesis CLI.
New ways for Genesis agencies & freelancers to get leads!
As you may have heard, after the acquisition of StudioPress, WP Engine quickly added benefits unique to the Genesis community within the WP Engine platform and agency program.
For agencies & freelancers these benefits are especially powerful. Agencies & freelancers who join the WP Engine Agency Program receive…
- A free WP Engine agency platform account
- Unlimited “transferrable installs” which you can use to stage client work, regardless of where the client wants to host.
- Free access to download Genesis & all the StudioPress made themes
- 24×7 chat support for Genesis and all the StudioPress made themes
- Optional commissions for referrals
- A listing in our agency directory and a ton of other benefits!
Getting a listing for your agency or freelance business in WP Engine’s agency directory is a great way to get additional leads, but we’ve recently updated the directory by adding a Genesis “proficiency” to make it even easier for WP Engine’s customers who need help with Genesis or Genesis child themes to find you.
The screenshot below shows how customers can filter their search by proficiency which now includes Genesis!
Keep in mind, all of WP Engine’s customers also get free access to Genesis and StudioPress themes. If a customer of WP Engine needs the help of an agency or freelancer, our support reps always recommend they start that search on the WP Engine agency directory. This means we have a large audience of customers who might need your help!
Don’t miss your chance to get your agency or freelance brand in front of a highly-targeted audience.
Register for the WP Engine agency program and select “Genesis” in your profile under “proficiencies” in order to show up when our customers or other folks who may use our directory are in need of help from a Genesis-focused agency or freelancer.
We’re working on more ways to help YOU grow!
In addition to efforts to surface Genesis community agencies and freelancers to WP Engine customers, we’re also working on even bigger and more substantial new ways to drive value and GROWTH for Genesis-focused agencies and freelancers.
We’ll be making announcements in the coming months on programs, technology, and opportunities all designed to help you get leads and customers for your agency or freelance business.
As always, if you have any ideas on how we could better serve you and your mission, please leave a comment on this blog post, send us a support request, or join the conversation on Genesis WP Slack.
